Go Green Construction was founded on the concept of using an ecologically conscious approach to building to help preserve our environment. We have extensive experience with most green building materials and techniques. In 2007, Go Green began a case study project we call Playa in the Westchester area of Los Angeles. This project has been pre-rated LEED Platinum, the highest rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council. So far we have deconstructed the existing single-family home—taking it apart board by board, nail by nail; diverting 95% of the material from landfills. Go Green is a member of the USGBC, Build it Green, and Global Green, and is an Energy Star Partner, and an AIA affiliate.

Koffka Phakos Design has had a sustainable approach to architecture since our founding in 2002. In one notable project, we designed an addition to the 1940s home of a family of artists. A new tower inserted into the courtyard affords views across the Sunset Park neighborhood while capturing ocean breezes and eliminating the need for air conditioning. Demolition was kept to a minimum and construction waste was recycled. Principals Cynthia Phakos and Adrian Koffka are both LEED Accredited Professionals. Cynthia Phakos was a recent contributor to GreenHomeGuide’s Ask A Pro column.

My parents became interested in non toxic/non chemical products about 20 years ago. I was an older teen then, but it greatly influenced me. In 1997, both my husband and I started C & K Landscape Design specializing in design and construction of outdoor living spaces utilizing sustainable, renewable materials. We integrate water saving and efficient irrigation design, California Natives and many other methods that make the site and landscape environmentally friendly. Since we started, we have integrated our ecological approach into dozens of projects. A special project is actually at my parents home in Brentwood--they were featured in ‘05 in LA Times Home Section as a cover for an ecological, sustainable home which we played a large role in developing the outdoor spaces with Cal Native Plants, biological ponds, permeable paving, low water irrigation, slope restoration and many other aspects. C & K are certified Sustainable Landscapers with the City of Santa Monica. We remain very focused on our mission of promoting design of sustainable landscapes.

Since our founding in 1971, we have completed hundreds of landscaping projects. One key project on a 1+ acre site at a public water treatment facility featured native plants, site water retention (drip irrigation, zero-runoff grading, percolation chambers, and bioswales), public interpretive trails, recycled organic mulch, experimental terra preta soil modifications, and wildlife habitat. Founder Owen Dell is a certified water manager and a member of the Ecological Landscaping Association.

All of our projects, to some degree, are green homes. We incorporate sustainable materials, natural ventilation and solar power in all our projects. The McKinley residence embodies the green home ideal. Solar and photovoltaic panels provide 70% of the family’s energy needs, and the materials, from structural to cladding to appliances, are all environmentally conscious. David Hertz was LEED Accredited in 2004 and the firm is affiliated with several green organizations such as, USCBC, AIA COTE and EPS for the city of Santa Monica. David has also been teaching a course on ecology and architecture at UCLA for over 10 years.

Dennis Design Group approaches every project with sustainable principles. The first green project was completed in 2000.
“A key turning point for our firm was when avid environmentalist Chef Jeffrey Mora hired us in 2003. In addition to learning so much from him in the arena of sustainability, we were able to hold meetings with people like Ed Begley Jr. Plus, the chef was cooking for us all of the time. His residence was published in 16 magazines throughout the world, including the cover of Smart Home Owner,” states Lori Dennis, the firm’s principal.
Dennis is a LEED Accredited Professional and is currently a member of the ASID green committee.

Our projects highlight environmental features such as habitat preservation and restoration and incorporate ecological design strategies such as passive solar energy efficiencies, water retention/recycling and use of non-toxic/recycled building materials. Our firm emphasizes the interdependent relationship between the natural and built environments. Our goal is to build shelters and communities for our growing society, while minimizing the impact of the construction on the land and local resources.
Duvivier Architects won the City of Santa Monica’s Sustainable Leadership Award in October 2004 for their “extraordinary efforts and commitments which have helped to make Santa Monica a more sustainable community.”

EE Solar is proud of its fleet of 5 EVs and 3 natural gas vans. We try to reduce our carbon footprint from start to finish on our client’s solar installations. We’ve installed over 400 systems in the past 5 years and expect to install double that in the next 5 years. We furnished the Urth Caffe with an educational kiosk that explains their solar system to customers waiting in line. We are proud members of ASES.
